Laws transform transformers
Low-voltage, dry-type distribution transformers received an energy compliance makeover in 2007. A federal law required 15kVA and larger transformers to meet the NEMA TP-1-2007 standards for energy efficiency.
While these type of transformers already showed 90% efficiency, the new standards pushed them to 97% and higher, according to the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. This means more energy is being used in the building instead of being lost as waste heat, thus reducing emissions due while providing a shorter payback for building owners.
