Time for an eco-celebration!
Our country, and the world, is becoming more concerned about how we impact the planet. Several holidays have been established to maintain this focus.
Arbor Day
Arbor Day is a national holiday that encourages individuals to plant and care for trees. Founded by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska in 1872, it is celebrated each year on the last Friday of April. Planting trees can add value to your home, help keep it cool, serve as a windbreak to lower heating costs, and provide food for wildlife.
The Energy Star Change a Light Campaign was designed to bring individuals and organizations together to save energy and fight global warming. Energy Star encourages participants to switch to lighting that has earned the government’s Energy Star label for energy efficiency. If every American home replaced one light bulb with an Energy Star bulb we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year.
Earth Day
Earth Day is celebrated worldwide on April 22. Earth Day gives support to environmental programs and creates public awareness to build a better future for our environment.
